“If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.”

Thanksgiving by the Numbers

Colchester residents and neighbors came through with big numbers for the Thanksgiving Food Drive this year. Between November 14 and November 18 alone, 178 turkeys were donated, and over 4,102 pounds of food was donated. (The food donated in pounds includes the weight of the turkeys collected.) Thank you to everyone who helped make the holiday food drive a success!

Let’s Talk Turkey!

Cartoon TurkeyDay after day, the citizens of Colchester (and others from surrounding towns) continue to support the Colchester Community Food Shelf. As we approach the holiday season, and especially Thanksgiving, we would like to be able to give our clients a turkey and a few of the dinner fixings, to help them celebrate the holidays.

As you browse the sale items in your local grocery stores in the coming weeks, please keep your friends and neighbors in mind. Every donation, large or small, helps others in the community.

Some suggested donations for the holiday meal includes stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, potatoes (fresh or instant), the ingredients of green bean casserole (green beans, mushroom soup, and crispy fried onions), and, of course, turkeys.

Our freezers will be ready for turkeys beginning Tuesday, November 14 during our regular hours (Tuesdays/Thursdays 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and Wednesdays 3:30 – 6:00 p.m.). We will also have special hours on Saturday, November 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for turkey and fixings donations.

Looking to make a donation outside of our regular hours? There is a drop box at the Burnham Memorial Library. Non-perishable items only, please!

Thank you again for your continued support!
