Students count food items for the 100th day of schoolIt’s Throwback Thursday! On February 12, the students at Porters Point School and Union Memorial School celebrated the 100th day of school. The students at the schools range from kindergarten to grade 2.

On the 100th day of school, students participated in a number of activities related to the number 100. One of the activities this year was to see if students and families could donate 100 non-perishable food items for the local food shelf. Both schools achieved their goal! The students at each school counted all of the donated items, which were then delivered to the Colchester Food Shelf, where they are checked-in and weighed before being added to the shelves. The two schools donated a combined 304 pounds of food to the Colchester Food Shelf!

The project taught students more than basic math skills. Students learned the importance of giving back to the community, and how helping others can make you feel good at the same time!
