Turkey Talk and Drop-Off Hours

The Colchester Food Shelf is preparing for another Thanksgiving season. The freezers will be turned on and ready to go to begin accepting turkeys on Tuesday, November 19.

Our goal is to be able to provide registered clients with a turkey and dinner fixings for Thanksgiving. In order to reach that goal, we anticipate that we will need approximately 100 turkeys.

We are looking for the following items: turkeys (between 14 and 18 pounds is a good size), boxed scalloped or mashed potatoes, green bean casserole ingredients (green beans, cream of mushroom soup, French’s Crispy Fried Onions), boxed stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, and turkey gravy.

Please help us spread the word!

Donations can be made during the hours listed below. Please do not leave food items outside the door of the food shelf during non-business hours.

Hours for Client Shopping and Donations:
Tuesday, November 19 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday, November 20 from 3:30 – 6:00 p.m.
Thursday, November 21 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Special Hours for Donations Only:
Saturday, November 23 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Regular donations accepted, but especially turkeys and Thanksgiving dinner fixings.

We will be distributing Thanksgiving turkeys and fixings to clients on Monday, November 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Food Shelf Closed Today (November 12)

The CCFS will reopen during our regular hours tomorrow, Wednesday, November 13, from 3:30 to 6 p.m.

How Does the Snow Impact Our Hours?

Colorful question markTo try to help make it a little easier for the community to know how the weather is impacting the operations at the CCFS, we are going to follow the lead of the local schools.

What’s the best way to know if the Colchester Food Shelf will be open on a snowy day? If the Colchester schools are open, you can slide our way!

At this point, the CCFS plans to be open for our regular hours tomorrow, Tuesday, November 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Safe travels if you have to be on the roads!

Thanksgiving Donation Information

Silly Thanksgiving turkey eating pie.With your help, the Colchester Community Food Shelf would again like to be able to give any registered client a turkey and bag of dinner fixings for Thanksgiving. Information about items typically included for families, as well as days and times for donations, can be found below:

Dinner fixings can include potatoes (fresh, any product of instant); ingredients for green bean casserole (green beans, cream of mushroom soup, French’s Crispy Fried Onions); turkey gravy and cranberry sauce.

Turkeys generally between 14 and 18 pounds are a good size.

Our freezers will be turned on and ready for Tuesday, November 19.

Donations are welcome during our regular hours:
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Wednesdays from 3:30 – 6:00 p.m.
Second Saturday of the month from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

We will have additional special hours on Saturday, November 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

We will be distributing Thanksgiving turkeys and fixings on Monday, November 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Hannaford Helps in November

Hannaford Helps information and image of reusable bag.Have you heard the news? The Colchester Community Food Shelf has been selected as the beneficiary of the Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag Program!

Each time the $2.50 reusable Fight Hunger Bag is purchased at the Hannaford at 217 Dorset Street in South Burlington during the month of November, the food shelf will receive a $1 donation.

The Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag Program, which launched in April 2014, is a reusable bag program that facilitates community support with the goal to make a difference in the communities where shoppers live and work.

Help the environment and the local food shelf at the same time!
