MASK WEARING: Please continue to wear a mask when talking with Food Shelf volunteers. Volunteers continue to wear masks throughout their shifts. COVID-19 is still out here, but just as important, the Flu virus has arrived.
THANKSGIVING TURKEY AND DINNER FIXINGS OPTION: There is a question on the shopping list regarding your desire to have Thanksgiving dinner items. We will keep it on the shopping list for a Yes or No answer through the first couple weeks of November. You must be a registered client of the Food Shelf. If you are a new client, you must show proof of residency on or before November 21 or November 22.
THANKSGIVING DONATION AND CLIENT PICKUP DATES: The Food Shelf has begun its preparation for Thanksgiving. We would like to offer the following: bags of potatoes/boxed scalloped potatoes, turkey gravy, green bean casserole ingredients (canned green beans, cream of mushroom soup, and French fried onion rings), boxed stuffing mix, and cranberry sauce. Our freezers will be available for turkeys as of Wednesday, November 9 (turkeys from 12-16 pounds are a good size).
Wednesday Drop-Off Information:
- Wednesdays, November 9 and 16, volunteers are preparing to open between 11 AM and 12 Noon and will be happy to accept donated items from you. If you cannot come during that time, you are welcome between our open hours of 12 Noon and 6 PM. Please park at Claussen’s and walk over to the Food Shelf. If you need a cart or assistance, please let us know how we can help you.
Saturday Donation Dates:

Thanksgiving Preparations at the CCFS

The Colchester Food Shelf has begun its preparations for Thanksgiving. As we have done each Thanksgiving, we would like to offer dinner fixings along with a turkey for current Food Shelf clients, so we are looking for: bags of potatoes/boxed scalloped potatoes, turkey gravy, green bean casserole ingredients (green beans, cream of mushroom soup and French fried onion rings), boxed stuffing mix and cranberry sauce. Our freezers will be available to accept turkeys as of Wednesday, November 9 (12-14 pound turkeys are a good size).
Thanksgiving Donation Drop-Off Times:
- Wednesdays, November 2, 9, and 16
Since we are open for clients from 12 Noon to 6 PM, the better time to stop in with donations is 11 AM to 12 Noon. If you can only come after 12 Noon, please park at Claussen’s and walk over. If you need a cart or assistance, please walk over and let us know how we can help. - Saturday, November 12 from 12 Noon to 4 PM

SCHOOL IS IN SESSION: For those who might come to the Food Shelf mid-afternoon, please be aware of school buses and watch for parents and children crossing from Claussen’s in front of the Food Shelf. Please avoid lining up in the usual turn-around.

We will also include dates and times for client pickup of the dinner fixings and turkeys. We are handing out small reminder cards to clients now regarding dates they need to remember.
DONORS: If you are planning to bring a donation to the Food Shelf on Wednesdays, please try to come early. There are volunteers at the Food Shelf at 11:00 AM, preparing for Wednesday hours. Please do not leave donations if there is no volunteer there. Some grocery donations to consider might include apple juice; Progresso or Campbell’s Chunky soups with chicken or beef; cereals (Honey Nut Cheerios, Raisin Bran, Rice Krispies, Corn Flakes); pasta sauce (without meat). Please check the dates to avoid bringing outdated items. Thank you for your help!
