“If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.”

Throwback Thursday – 100th Day of School
It’s Throwback Thursday! On February 12, the students at Porters Point School and Union Memorial School celebrated the 100th day of school. The students at the schools range from kindergarten to grade 2.
On the 100th day of school, students participated in a number of activities related to the number 100. One of the activities this year was to see if students and families could donate 100 non-perishable food items for the local food shelf. Both schools achieved their goal! The students at each school counted all of the donated items, which were then delivered to the Colchester Food Shelf, where they are checked-in and weighed before being added to the shelves. The two schools donated a combined 304 pounds of food to the Colchester Food Shelf!
The project taught students more than basic math skills. Students learned the importance of giving back to the community, and how helping others can make you feel good at the same time!

“Fill-the-Truck” Month … We’re Half Way There!
The Food Shelf has been a busy place over the last two weeks. On February 3, we kicked off the 6th year of the Colchester Milton Rotary’s “Fill-the-Truck” event at Shaw’s Supermarket in Colchester. In the days to follow, we had two very helpful student volunteers from the Colchester Middle School that helped process 555 pounds of food!
The event continued on February 10 at Price Chopper in Colchester. Two more student volunteers from the Colchester Middle School helped process another 876.5 pounds of food that had been collected during the second week of the food drive!
We want to thank our student volunteers, who in the first two weeks combined, helped process over 1,431 pounds of food! Thank you for your part in helping to make a difference in our community!
The “Fill-the-Truck” event doesn’t stop here! The event will continue throughout the month of February. Donations can be made throughout the month of February at the Colchester Police Department, the Burnham Memorial Library, the Re/Max North office at 875 Roosevelt Highway, and the Milton Family Community Center. Please consider supporting the food drive with canned goods or a financial donation.
“The Truck” will also be at the Hannaford Supermarket at 259 Route 7 South in Milton from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17 and Saturday, February 24. Stop by and see us!
Thank you for your continued support of the Colchester Food Shelf! We couldn’t do this without all of you!
