“If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.”

Thanksgiving by the Numbers (2018)

Thank you to everyone who donated turkeys, non-perishable food items, money, and/or their time to help the Colchester Food Shelf. Between Nov. 13 and Nov. 20, over 3,000 pounds of food was donated, including 138 turkeys! We also wanted to say thank you to Zachary’s Pizza of Colchester for temporarily making room in their freezers for the turkeys again this year!

Let’s keep things going! We are proud to be part of the global celebration of giving again this year. Tomorrow, November 27, is Giving Tuesday. Please consider giving your time, skills, voice, goods, dollars, or whatever you can to help others. Everyone can have an impact! How will you give back? Two Drop-off Days for Turkey/Fixings

Cartoon turkey wearing a black pilgrim hatThanksgiving is just one week away! Again this year, the Colchester Food Shelf would like to be able to provide our clients with turkeys and dinner fixings to help everyone have the opportunity to celebrate the holidays. As you browse the sale items in your local grocery stores, please keep your friends and neighbors in mind. Every donation, large or small, helps others in the community!

Some suggested donations for the holiday meal includes stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, potatoes (fresh or instant), the ingredients of green bean casserole (green beans, mushroom soup, and crispy fried onions), and, of course, turkeys.

With only two donation days remaining before clients pick up their turkeys and fixings for Thanksgiving, we still have room in our freezers. We will be open for donations during our regular hours today, Thursday, November 15, from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Can’t make it today? We are also open special hours on Saturday, November 17, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for donations.

Looking to make a donation outside of our regular hours? There is a drop box at the Burnham Memorial Library. Non-perishable items only, please!

Thank you again for your continued support!
